How to apply for e-Pass during the lockdown in India

The Indian Government decided to extend the lockdown in the country till 3rd May to control the spread of coronavirus pandemic. Many nations lost their citizens due to the spread of the COVID19 virus. We thank our Government for taking such preventive measures to keep the country safe. The Government has initiated some rules and regulations during the lockdown period to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The force is punishing the ones not respecting the laws. Only shops selling essential items are open, and the movement of vehicles carrying essential goods is allowed. But in an emergency, you can apply for the e-pass to commute.

What is an e-pass?

An e-pass is a digital pass that proves your allowance to commute within or inter cities or states. The State Government issues e-passes only for people with specific jobs or in emergencies. The duties include people involved in the movement of essential goods and medicines, police, courier services, journalists, and doctors. It is issued for a limited period, and it also mentions the number of passengers who can be accompanying the person. It is not sure whether you will receive your electronic permission after applying it online. The concerned local authorities will verify the reasons and all other required information and then issues the pass.

What all documents are required?

There is a set of necessary documents that you need to submit while applying for the e-pass. The Aadhar card, Driving license, vehicle details, city name you are traveling to, and mobile number are some of the essential information required to submit before applying for the online pass. Within a period, the concerned local authorities will proceed with the verification process. If the verification is successful, you will receive the e-pass for traveling for a fixed period of time.

Anyone can apply for the e-pass service. But the authorities are giving passes to people with genuine reasons or in emergency scenarios. Here are the steps you can follow to apply for the e-pass. 

  1. Some of the state-specific websites for applying for the pass are delhi.gov.in for Delhi, covid19.mhpolice.in for Maharashtra, upepass2 for UttarPradesh, mapit.gov.in for Madhya Pradesh. You can click on these links and follow further steps. For other states, you will easily get the website URL on google search.
  2. Open the Government official website.
  3. Select the e-pass tab and continue to fill all the required details. You need to submit the personal information, id, vehicle details, city where you are going, and your mobile number. 
  4. Upload the precise copy of the documents and click on the SUBMIT button to finish the e-pass application submission process.
  5. After the proper verification of all the documents, if the authorities feel that the reasons are genuine, they will approve your e-pass, and you will receive a message from the concerned authority. 
  6. Do not misplace this message. You can also keep a hardcopy of the e-pass.

It is not sure until when the lockdown is going to extend. But in this tough time, we need to support our Government in whatever ways possible. We must not misuse e-pass and other services provided by the government.
